Deauville is a commune in the Calvados department in the Basse-Normandie region of France, as well as a seaside resort and port at the English Channel. With its racecourse, harbor, international film festivals, marinas, conference centre, villas, Grand Casino and sumptuous hotels, Deauville is regarded as the queen of the Norman beaches.
City areas
Deauville is one of the most famous beaches of Normandy, boasting not only with the beach but also with its racecourse, port, marina, villas, hotels and nightclubs. It is often associated with the vis-à-vis Trouville-sur-Mer, the chief town of the canton, on the other side of the river Touques.
Attractions
As a select holiday resort, Deauville offers a wide variety of activities from golf to casino games, horse races and polo. In the summer you can also try different water sports by the beach.
Transportation
Those who wish to reach Deauville can do so by plane or by train. You can also travel by car, although it isn’t recommended to do so in summer, as parking spaces will be rare.
Events
Deauville is home to some of the biggest events in the world. Beside the American Film Festival, which gathers famous Hollywood movie stars, the town is also host to a famous jazz festival, as well as a world bridge contest.

The city has a lot to offer from a gastronomical point of view. Restaurants have specific menus ranging from sea food and local cuisine to Italian and even fast food.
History and Civilization
From the city that was first mentioned in history in the 11th century as a simple fishing hamlet, Deauville is seen as a haven nowadays by the rich and the famous, bearing the nickname of “queen of the Norman beaches”.
